Manchester United defender Matthijs de Ligt was delighted that his trip down to beat Southampton 3-0 was not in vain, scoring his first goal as a Red Devil and giving it as a birthday present to his beloved wife.

De Ligt started his second game in four for United, scoring the opener at St Mary’s from a corner, which was a positive sign for the team.

“The win is the most important thing. I think it’s not enough to get three points after three games, so there’s pressure. But last time we played well,” he told Football on Ufabet Sports.

“Big credit to Andre Onana for saving a crucial penalty to keep us from falling behind. He was a game changer for us.”

“The team has been practicing many set pieces. The goal I scored was not out of the book. I just got into a good position.”

“Today is my wife’s birthday, so I dedicate this door to her.”

“My performance in the international break was not because I wanted to prove myself. Sometimes, the results don’t come out the way we want. Our job is to try to look at the bright side.”

“I’m happy to have played 70 minutes, the longest I’ve been here, and it’s my third game in a week,”

“Personally, it was important to get the UFABET rhythm going, and I got to show a little bit of what I could do.”

De Ligt is considered a prolific defender, having scored 5 goals for Bayern Munich (5 goals ), Juventus (8 goals ) and Ajax (13 goals ).
